TQ Constructors Adds AL-6XN® Welding Procedure

TQ Constructors Adds AL-6XN® Welding Procedure

TQ Constructors has added a qualified AL-6XN® welding procedure, with expert AL-6XN welders on-staff. AL-6XN (UNS N08367) is a low-carbon, high-purity stainless steel alloy that’s nitrogen-bearing and super-austenitic, meaning it’s very strong while being highly resistant to corrosion. This means that AL-6XN alloy is great for highly corrosive environments, performing better than standard duplex stainless steels and more cost-effective than nickel-based alloys when strength, corrosion resistance, weldability, and formability are priorities.

Welding AL-6XN alloy is fairly easily welded with the proper training and equipment. Although it generally produces a less-attractive weld than other more standard stainless steels, the welded product is very strong and practically immune to chloride stress cracking. AL-6XN is often used in maritime applications where exposure to seawater is a concern, but TQ is also capable of using the material for many other corrosive applications in the bio-pharmaceutical and food and beverage markets.
